Silver Maple Rabbitry

Silver Maple Rabbitry is currently not raising rabbits. I have taken a break from breeding due to college. I may once more have rabbits later on, but for now I don't. If you are in the north Georgia area, please email me as I can direct you to fellow breeders who may be able to help you. I will be adding rabbit related articles to this website as I am able.

Notice: Due to large volumes of email requesting breeder information, the following are links to a few breeders I've dealt with. I do not have time to respond and individually assist every person who emails me, therefore my email address has been removed and will remain private.

General Rabbit Care

* Housing *
Wire cages are best: they are easier to clean and provide plenty of air flow. Also cheap to buy or build yourself.
Small to medium rabbits can live in a 24x24 inch cage, more space is better if available.
The cage should have a food dish, water bottle, and 2-3 toys.

* Feeding *
The majority of the diet should be made of a quality rabbit chow, preferably what the breeder fed.
Also feed hay at least a few times per week. It aids in digestion.
Vegetables should make up a SMALL portion of the rabbit's daily diet. I prefer them as treats. AVOID feeding iceberg lettuce and large amounts of any other veggie.

* Toys *
To prevent boredom & destructive behavior, give your rabbit a few toys in his cage.
Rabbits enjoy toilet paper tubes, crumpled paper, pine cones, wood/rope parrot toys, golf balls, and twigs.

* Handling *
NEVER pick up your rabbit by the ears, tail, or legs.
Scoop him up and be sure to support the rear feet.

* Cagemates *
Rabbits DO NOT require another bunny living with them.
This can cause fights resulting in injury or death to your pets.

* Finding a Rabbit-Savvy Vet *
Call local vets to ask if they have treated rabbits before and how much knowledge they have.
Visit potential vets to see how they act around your rabbit (are they comfortable? do they know what they are talking about?).
